A New Beginning
Scripture declares a powerful truth:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
This is not just poetic language—it is a spiritual reality.
When a person—young or old, man or woman—comes to faith in Jesus Christ, something changes deep within. It is not merely an outward decision, but an inward transformation.
Your nature begins to change.
Your desires begin to shift.
Your identity is no longer defined by your past—but by Him.
From Who You Were to Who You Are
Before Christ, our identity is shaped by sin, brokenness, and the world.
But in Christ, we are given a new identity:
- Children of God (John 1:12)
- Sons and daughters of God (Romans 8:14–15)
- A new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)
You are no longer who you used to be.
You are not defined by your past, your failures, or your mistakes.
You are defined by your relationship with Christ.
A Personal Journey of Identity
I experienced this truth personally at a young age.
When I was around 15 years old, I gave my life to Jesus Christ after my dad had committed his heart to the Lord. That decision began to reshape everything.
I started attending church with my parents, reading my Bible regularly, praying, and genuinely seeking God.
And God began to respond.
He spoke to me, and at times, He gave me dreams and visions about my future. One moment that has always stayed with me—I saw myself on an airplane with a Bible in my lap. Even as a teenager, I sensed what it meant: God was calling me beyond where I was, for His purposes.
That journey eventually led me to Cleveland, Tennessee in 1999, where I attended New Life Bible College.
Those two years were foundational.
It was there that God deeply established my identity—not in what I could do, but in who I was in Him.
As Jesus said:
“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
That freedom is not just external—it is internal. It is the freedom of knowing who you are in Christ.
Adopted Into God’s Family
The moment you place your faith in Christ, you are brought into God’s family.
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” (Romans 8:14)
This identity is not something you earn—it is something you receive.
You don’t strive to become a child of God.
You are made one through Christ.
The Evidence of a Changed Life
A new identity produces a new direction.
“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:25)
This doesn’t mean perfection—but it does mean transformation.
You begin to desire what is right.
You become sensitive to conviction.
You grow in obedience.
A Loving Father’s Discipline
One of the clearest signs that you belong to God is His discipline.
Hebrews tells us:
“For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.” (Hebrews 12:6)
And again:
“Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:11)
God’s correction is not rejection—it is love.
He shapes us, refines us, and brings us into alignment with who we are in Christ.
Walking in Your Identity
Living in your identity requires daily surrender.
“Put off… the old man… and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and… put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22–24)
Each day, you choose:
- Truth over lies
- Spirit over flesh
- Identity over insecurity
The Invitation
You are not who you used to be.
In Christ:
- You are made new
- You are a child of God
- You are being transformed
And even when God disciplines you, it is because He is forming something eternal within you.
