Forgiveness through Jesus Christ

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our wrongdoings, according to the riches of His grace”

In the beginning of creation, when God made the heavens and the earth, everything was perfect. He looked upon all He had made and declared that it was good (Genesis 1:31). Then He created mankind—Adam and Eve—and placed them in this perfect world. Yet through disobedience, sin entered into the world, and with it came brokenness, separation, and pain (Romans 5:12).

Even then, God had a plan.

The most amazing truth is this: God chose to send His only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to redeem mankind. As it is written in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Through Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection, a way was made for us to be restored.

When He shed His blood, He made forgiveness available to all who choose Him. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace” (Ephesians 1:7). That is powerful—because every one of us stands in need of that forgiveness. As Scripture reminds us, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

I remember when I was a teenager—that was the time I truly accepted Christ. I’ve shared more of that story in an earlier blog, but to sum it up, I was bound by lust, fear, unforgiveness, rejection, and deep hurt. My life was weighed down by things I couldn’t overcome on my own.

But when I came to Christ—when I truly surrendered to Him and was filled with His Spirit—everything changed. Just as 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” I have never been the same. What I could not break free from, He broke for me. What I could not heal, He restored.

And the same is available to anyone.

Anyone who comes to Christ can receive that same grace, that same mercy, that same forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). When we turn from our sin—our disobedience and rebellion—and come to Him with a sincere and broken heart, He meets us there. As it is written, “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart” (Psalm 34:18).

Scripture calls us, “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6). When we draw near to Him, He draws near to us (James 4:8). He welcomes us, forgives us, and brings us into His kingdom.

There is no other way to enter into eternal life except through Jesus Christ. As Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
