1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV

A few years ago, I remember the Holy Spirit speaking to my heart and saying, “Abdicate the throne of your heart.” The word abdicate means to willingly step down, to surrender, or to lay something aside. When a king abdicates his throne, he gives up his right to rule.
In the same way, we are called to surrender the throne of our hearts to Jesus Christ.
The Bible reminds us that our lives are not our own:
“You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20)
We have been purchased by the precious blood of Jesus, and our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Because of this, we are called to honor Him with our lives.
Jesus Himself said:
“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)
When we accept Jesus Christ into our hearts, we receive the greatest gift ever given—salvation and eternal life:
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
It is free, undeserved, and full of grace. But it does not stop there. We are called to follow Him daily, walking in obedience:
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” (John 14:15)
That calling may look different for each person.
For me, I grew up in Indiana, and as a teenager, the Lord began to give me dreams about my future. In 1999, I moved to Tennessee to attend Bible college. That season marked the beginning of a deeper work—God shaping and forming my life to become more like Him:
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
It’s not always easy to hear, but as believers, we are called to lay down our lives—to surrender our will, our plans, and our desires:
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” (Galatians 2:20)
We are called to reflect His light and His love to a world that is lost and in need of hope:
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
Today, ask the Lord for the grace to surrender fully:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5–6)
Ask Him to help you lay down your life and follow wherever He leads.
Prayer:
Lord, give us the grace to abdicate the throne of our hearts and to place You where You alone belong. Strengthen us to walk in obedience and to follow You faithfully. Help us endure to the end:
“But he who endures to the end shall be saved.” (Matthew 24:13)
Blessings to you today, family.
